Essential material for Flame Altar upgrades
In Enshrouded, Goo is an important crafting material you’ll need fairly early. Its most important use is upgrading the Flame Altar, but it’s also required for several arrows, spells, and base items.
This guide shows how to unlock Goo, how to craft it, and what it’s used for.
How to Unlock Goo Crafting

Before you can craft Goo, you must:
- Rescue the Alchemist from the Alchemist Vault
- Summon the Alchemist to your base
- Complete The Alchemist Mortar quest line
- Craft and place the Alchemist Mortar
The Mortar is required to process materials used in Goo crafting.
How to Get Bug Dust (Required)

To craft Goo, you first need Bug Dust.
Once Critter Parts is obtained, go to your Alchemist and use the recipe Bug Dust
Once you’ve done this once, the Goo recipe will be unlocked.
Goo Crafting Recipe

To craft Goo, you need:
- 1× Bug Dust
- 1× Dirt
- 1× Shroud Liquid
Where to Get the Materials
- Bug Dust → From Critter Parts via Alchemist Mortar
- Dirt → Dig into the ground with a Pickaxe
- Shroud Mushroom→ Harvest from growths and mushrooms inside the Shroud
All three are easy to obtain once unlocked.
What Goo Is Used For
Goo is required for:
- Flame Altar upgrades
- Stun Arrows
- Shroud Arrows
- Magic chests
- Spells and base decorations
You’ll keep needing Goo as you progress, so crafting it early saves time later.
Final Tip
Once the Alchemist is unlocked, Goo stops being rare. If you’re stuck upgrading your Flame Altar, Goo is usually the missing ingredient.
