Move across Embervale quickly and safely

Enshrouded is a massive open-world survival game set in Embervale, a land consumed by a corrupt fog known as the Shroud. The Shroud damages everything it touches, making long journeys on foot both slow and dangerous.

Because of this, fast travel is essential. Without it, moving across the map can take an extremely long time and expose you to unnecessary risk. This guide explains how fast travel works, how to use Flame Altars, and how Ancient Spires can be used as powerful traversal points once unlocked.

How Fast Travel Works in Enshrouded

Flame Altar
Flame Altar

Fast travel in Enshrouded is handled through Flame Altars and a few key fixed locations.

Early in the game, you can fast travel between:

  • Cinder Vault (starting area)
  • Ancient Spires (once unlocked)

As you progress, you can expand this system by placing your own Flame Altars.

How to Use Flame Altars for Fast Travel

Flame Altars allow you to create your own fast-travel network.

How to Craft a Flame Altar

  • 5× Stone

Once crafted and placed:

  1. Open the map
  2. Select a Flame Altar
  3. Press R to fast travel

This lets you instantly escape danger, bypass enemies, or move across the world safely.

Flame Altar Limits (Important to Know)

Early in the game:

  • You can only have two active Flame Altars at once

If you try to place a third:

  • You must deactivate one of the existing altars

Smart Early Strategy

  • Keep one permanent altar at your main base
  • Use the second as a temporary travel altar
  • Deactivate and move the temporary one as needed

This gives you flexibility without wasting upgrades.

Using Ancient Spires for Fast Travel (Pro Tip)

Once unlocked, Ancient Spires are some of the best fast-travel points in the game.

Why?

  • They are high elevation locations
  • After fast traveling to a Spire, you can:
    • Jump off
    • Deploy your Glider
    • Travel long distances without touching the ground

This makes Ancient Spires ideal for:

  • Reaching remote areas
  • Avoiding the Shroud below
  • Combining fast travel with gliding for maximum efficiency

Once unlocked, they become natural movement hubs rather than just teleport points.

How to Upgrade Flame Altars

Flame Altars can be upgraded using Shroud Cores, which:

  • Increase base build range
  • Unlock further progression

How to Get Shroud Cores

  • Defeat Wraith enemies
  • Often found near Elixir Wells
  • Wraiths respawn, allowing repeated farming

You can also craft Shroud Cores after rescuing the Alchemist using:

  • 10× Shroud Liquid
  • 10× Shroud Spores

Why Fast Travel Matters

Fast travel allows you to:

  • Avoid dangerous Shroud zones
  • Skip long enemy-filled routes
  • Reposition quickly after death
  • Explore efficiently without wasting stamina or supplies

In a world as large as Embervale, walking everywhere simply isn’t practical.

Final Tip

Once Ancient Spires are unlocked, treat them as launch platforms, not just teleport points. Fast travel in, glide out, and cover huge distances safely.
