🔙 Return to Enshrouded Hub
Ammonia Glands are one of those resources you won’t care about…
Until you suddenly need 20 of them.
They are required for:
- Flame Altar Level 5 upgrade
- Eternal spell crafting
- Leather production
- Several mid-to-late game recipes
And you can only farm them in one specific area.
Let’s make sure you do it efficiently.

Where to Find Ammonia Glands
Ammonia Glands drop in Umber Hollow, a Shroud-covered area located between:
- Nomad Highlands
- Kindlewastes
⚠️ You need Flame Level 4 to survive here.
Without it, the Shroud will consume you almost instantly.

- Fast travel to Nomad Highlands Ancient Spire
- Jump off facing southwest and glide towards Umber Hallow
On the screenshots, you will see marks I have placed:
- Red circle Marker: Bag – Creature Spawn Area
- Green circle Marker: Flag – Safe Exit Route (out of Shroud / fast travel available again)

Umber Hollow is easy to enter.
If you don’t know your exit, it’s very easy to die trying to leave.
The Mushroom Creatures (How They Actually Work)

The aggressive mushroom creatures here are not like the passive ones in Revelwood.
They:
- Charge at you
- Release toxic clouds
- Have high HP
- Hit hard without poison resistance
But here’s what most guides don’t tell you:
You Can Shoot the Glands Off
On the sides of each creature, you’ll see three visible Ammonia Glands.
You can:
- Shoot them off individually
- Watch them fall to the ground
- Pick them up immediately
This means you can secure glands before killing the creature.
Very useful if the fight gets messy.
After Killing Them
When the creature dies:
- It releases a toxic gas cloud.
- Do not rush in.
- Wait a few seconds before looting.
Otherwise you’ll take unnecessary poison damage.
Bonus Drop: Shroud Sacks
Besides Ammonia Glands, their remains also drop Shroud Sacks.
So each kill gives you:
- ✔ Side glands you shot off
- ✔ Additional glands from the corpse
- ✔ Shroud Sacks
That makes Umber Hollow a double-resource farming spot.
Two important materials. One trip.
Safe Farming Strategy
Before you start farming:
- Place a Flame Altar outside the Shroud above Umber Hollow.
- Memorize your exit route.
- Farm in loops moving toward your exit.
Do not farm deeper blindly.
Once you reach your exit point:
- Shroud effect ends
- Fast travel becomes available again
Efficiency > panic running.
