In Enshrouded, you start with nothing — no weapons, no armor, no tools. Almost everything you need has to be crafted, and String is one of the first bottlenecks you’ll run into.
Here’s the fastest way to get it, without overthinking it.
What String Is Used For
String is required for crafting:
- Workbench
- Axe & Pickaxe
- Grappling Hook
- Glider
- Various early tools and upgrades
In short: you can’t avoid it.
Best Way to Get String (Craft It Yourself)
The easiest and most reliable way to get String is to craft it from Plant Fibers.
How to Craft String
- 3× Plant Fibers = 1× String
That’s it.
Where to Find Plant Fibers
Plant Fibers come from small bushes and sapling-like plants scattered everywhere across Embervale.
How to spot them:
- Small, low plants (not full trees)
- Show a “Collect” prompt when you walk up
- Harvesting gives:
- Plant Fibers
- Often Twigs as a bonus
⚠️ Don’t confuse these with large trees.
Trees require an axe and give wood and resin, not Plant Fibers.
Can You Find String in the World?
Technically, yes.
- Destroy barrels
- Open chests
- Loot some Points of Interest
- Kill and loot Spiders.
But honestly?
This is slow, unreliable, and not worth it.
You’re never guaranteed to find String, and you almost never find enough.
Crafting it yourself is always faster.

Plant Fibers are unlimited.
