Once you unlock the Alabaneve Summit Ancient Spire in Enshrouded, you will quickly notice a new mechanic: Hypothermia.
Standing on top of the spire you may already see the frost timer ticking down — usually around 19 seconds. This means you are taking frost damage and cannot explore the northern mountains safely yet.
To venture deeper into the area you need Frost Resistance.
This guide shows how to increase your frost resistance so you can start exploring and eventually obtain Steel, which is required for late-game gear.

The Steel Problem
The obvious solution would be crafting frost-resistant armor at the Blacksmith.
But there’s a catch.
Most Blacksmith frost-resistant gear requires Steel, and Steel is located in the frozen region itself.
So to get Steel, you first need enough frost resistance to survive there.
This guide focuses on how to bridge that gap.
Armor With Frost Resistance
If you want a permanent solution, certain armor sets provide frost resistance without requiring Steel.
Mage Sets
These cloth sets offer frost resistance:
- Thaumaturge Set
- Pearlfrost Mentor Set
Hunter Sets
These Hunter sets also provide frost resistance:
- Trailblazer Set
- Alpine Antler Set
These are good alternatives if your main build is not using Blacksmith armor yet.
Pocket Heaters (Hunter Crafting)
The Hunter can craft Pocket Heaters.

Buff:
- +2 Frost Resistance
- Duration: 30 minutes
This is one of the easiest ways to temporarily increase your frost resistance.
Food That Helps Against Hypothermia
Enemies in the Alabaneve region (animals and other creatures, except Fell enemies) can drop Raw Fatty Meat.

You can cook this at a cooking station.
Grilled Fatty Meat

Buff:
- +200 HP
- +1 Frost Resistance
- Duration: 40 minutes
On its own this does not give you much extra time, but when combined with Pocket Heaters, it can make a big difference.
Stacking Frost Resistance
The trick is to combine multiple sources of frost resistance.
Example combination:
- Pocket Heater → +2 Frost Resistance
- Grilled Fatty Meat → +1 Frost Resistance
This already increases your survival time significantly, allowing you to explore deeper into the mountains.
About Beef Stew
Older guides and YouTube videos may recommend Beef Stew for frost resistance.
However, this recipe appears to have been nerfed.
It now only provides:
- +1 Frost Resistance
Because of that, it is usually not worth the effort anymore compared to easier options like Grilled Fatty Meat.
Of course, the developers at Keen Games may rebalance this in future updates.
If You Are Playing a Warrior Build
Warrior builds often rely on Blacksmith armor, which can create a progression problem because the frost-resistant sets require Steel.
If you want to progress faster, consider temporarily using:
- Hunter armor
- Mage frost-resistant gear
- Pocket heaters
- Frost resistance food
Once you gather enough Steel, you can switch back to your preferred gear.
Final Tip
When exploring frozen areas for the first time:
- bring Pocket Heaters
- bring frost resistance food
- move quickly between landmarks
- place Flame Altars for fast travel if needed
This will help you safely push deeper into the Alabaneve Summit and begin farming the resources needed for late-game gear.
