Lioncrest Manor 2

How to Get Your First Gold Bar Early in Crimson Desert (Hernand)

Return to Crimson Desert Guide Hub

Quick Answer

Head to LionCrest Manor in Hernand, climb in through a second floor window, head downstairs to the fireplace, turn off the fire, equip your thief mask, and steal the gold bar when no guards are watching. Trade it at the Hernand Bank for 500 silver — not a random merchant who only gives 190.

Early gold bars are one of the fastest ways to accelerate your progression in Crimson Desert. This one is sitting in plain sight — if you know the route. With a little patience and one mask, you walk out richer than most players are after hours of play.

What You Get From This Run

  • 1 Gold Bar (500 silver at Hernand Bank)
  • Optional: Rhonid Large Shield
  • Optional: Brass Warden’s Plate Gloves

One trip, three potential pieces of loot. Worth the stealth effort.

Before You Start

  • Equip a thief mask. You can’t steal anything in Crimson Desert without one. New to the mechanic? Check our Stealing in Crimson Desert Guide for how masks and theft timers work.
  • Make a manual save before taking the gold bar. If you get caught you’ll pay a fine and do jail time. Reloading is faster than recovering.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

Step 1: Travel to LionCrest Manor

LionCrest Manor is located in Hernand. Both the front and back entrances are guarded and they will not let you pass, so don’t bother trying to talk your way in.

Step 2: Climb Through a Second Floor Window

Go around to the side of the manor and climb up to one of the second floor windows. Interact with the window to open it and climb inside.

Step 3: Head Downstairs to the Fireplace

Once inside, take the stairs down to the ground floor. Your target is the fireplace near a small table.

Important: guards inside the manor won’t aggro just because you’re walking around. You can pass them without them attacking. It’s the act of stealing that triggers them.

Step 4: Turn Off the Fire

Interact with the fireplace to put the fire out. The gold bar is inside — you won’t be able to grab it while the flames are active.

Step 5: Save, Equip Mask, Steal the Bar

Now the critical sequence:

  1. Make a manual save
  2. Equip your thief mask (if not already on)
  3. Wait until the room is clear of guards — watch the patrol pattern
  4. Interact with the fireplace and select the steal prompt

Step 6: Hide and Wait Out the Theft Timer

A theft timer starts as soon as you grab the bar — around 20 to 30 seconds. Don’t run. Don’t try to escape.

The best hiding spot is right there: tuck into the corner on the right side of the fireplace, between the wall and the fireplace itself. Stay still until the timer runs out. If any guard spots you during this window it’s a fine and jail time.

Step 7: Leave the Manor

Once the timer is gone you’re clear. Head back out the same window you came in through.

Bonus Loot in the Same Manor

While you’re inside LionCrest Manor, there are two more pieces of gear worth grabbing:

  • Rhonid Large Shield — a solid upgrade over your starting shield. See our Rhonid Large Shield Guide for the exact location.
  • Brass Warden’s Plate Gloves — early armor piece worth picking up.

And if you haven’t done the Strongbox Puzzle yet, it’s also in this manor — see our LionCrest Manor Strongbox Puzzle Guide for the Engraved Gold Earring. You can grab the Hwando Two-Handed Katana on the same trip — details in our Hwando Guide.

What to Do With Your Gold Bar

Do not sell the gold bar to a random merchant — they’ll only give you around 190 silver. Take it to the Hernand Bank instead where you can trade it for a full 500 silver.

If you want to get more out of it, the bank also lets you invest gold bars for passive silver income over time. We’ll cover that fully in our upcoming Bank and Investment Guide — for now, just hold onto the bar until you reach the bank.

GameNautica Tips / Common Mistakes

Just leave the mask on. There’s no downside to walking around with your thief mask equipped. Guards don’t aggro from the mask alone — only from the act of stealing. Save yourself the inventory fumbling and just wear it throughout the manor run.

Save before stealing, every time. Getting caught costs silver and jail time. A five second save button press is worth it.

Don’t run after grabbing the bar. Running triggers guard suspicion. Hide and wait instead — the theft timer clears on its own.

Don’t expect the gold bar to respawn quickly. Once taken the fireplace stays empty for a long time — we’ve seen reports of 8+ in-game days with no respawn. For more gold bars you’ll want other methods (coming in a future guide).

Use the same trip for maximum value. The Rhonid Large Shield and Brass Warden’s Plate Gloves are in the same manor. Grab everything in one run rather than making repeated trips.

FAQ

Where is LionCrest Manor? In Hernand. Check the map screenshot above for the exact location.

Do I need a mask to steal the gold bar? Yes. Without a thief mask equipped the steal prompt won’t appear. See our Stealing Guide for how masks work.

Can I just leave the mask on the whole time? Yes. The mask alone doesn’t aggro guards — only stealing does. It’s easier to keep it equipped than to fumble with the inventory at the fireplace.

What happens if I get caught? You’ll pay a fine and serve jail time. Save before stealing so you can reload.

Where do I sell the gold bar? At the Hernand Bank for 500 silver. Don’t sell it to random merchants who only offer around 190.

Does the gold bar respawn? Not quickly. Expect at least 8+ in-game days and possibly longer. Plan around it being a one-time score.

Can I grab other loot in the same manor? Yes. The Rhonid Large Shield, Brass Warden’s Plate Gloves, Engraved Gold Earring (Strongbox Puzzle), and Hwando Katana are all in LionCrest Manor.
