If you’re just starting out in Crimson Desert, choosing the right skills early on can make a huge difference in how smooth (or frustrating) your combat feels.
This guide breaks down the best early skills to unlock, based on real gameplay experience — so you don’t waste valuable points.
How Skills Work in Crimson Desert
As you progress through the game:
- Complete quests
- Defeat enemies
- Fill your combat progression bar
You’ll earn Abyss Artifacts (basically skill points)
These are used across three main skill trees:
- 🔵 Blue (Combat & damage)
- 🟢 Green (Utility & spirit abilities)
- 🔴 Red (Mobility & advanced skills)
Important:
Each character has their own skill tree.
Early on, it’s best to focus on Kliff, the main character,
otherwise you’ll split your resources too much.

MUST-HAVE SKILL – Keen Senses
If you unlock ONE thing first… make it this.

Why it’s essential:
Keen Senses unlocks core combat mechanics:
- Level 1 → Parry
- Block incoming attacks
- Stagger enemies
- Avoid damage
- Level 2 → Dodge (with slow motion)
- Time slows after a successful dodge
- Gives you breathing room in fights
- Level 3 → Counterattack
- Turn defense into offense
- Interrupt enemy attacks
This skill alone can completely change how combat feels.
Best Blue Skills (Damage & Combat)
These are your main damage tools, so choose wisely.
Stamina (Top Priority)

If you’re unsure what to pick:
Pick stamina. Always.
It affects:
- Combat duration
- Running & climbing
- Horse movement
- Gliding
Basically everything you do in the game.
Armed Combat

Located at the bottom of the skill tree.
- Improves melee damage
- Unlocks new abilities
At 2 points:
- Unlocks Evasive Slash (very useful disengage tool)
Safe, reliable investment.
Forward Slash
One of the strongest early abilities.

- Heavy attack combo
- Works great with light attacks
Upgrade path:
- Level 1 → Good
- Level 2 → Better (proficiency)
- Level 3 → Strong (sure hit)
Gets even better with certain Abyss cores later.
Spinning Slash

- AoE attack
- Clears groups of enemies
Not your main damage tool, but:
Extremely useful when surrounded
Blinding Flash + Finisher

These two work together:
- Blinding Flash → blinds enemies
- Finisher → massive burst damage
Perfect for:
- Bosses
- Elite enemies
- Large targets
Best Green Skills (Utility & Spirit)
This tree focuses on spirit abilities and control.
Focus (MAX THIS EARLY)

- Slows down time
- Restores spirit
Level 2:
- Unlocks AoE push (great for crowd control)
Level 3:
- Tracks enemy attacks automatically
Makes difficult fights MUCH easier
Force Current

Not combat-focused, but extremely useful:
- Breaks resource nodes instantly
- Saves time farming
Great for:
- Wood
- Stone
- Ore
Nature’s Echo

This one is insanely strong.
- Creates illusions that repeat your attacks
Level scaling:
- Echoes Forward Slash
- Echoes Spinning Slash
- Echoes Stab
Can nearly double your damage output
Double Jump

Simple but powerful:
- Reach hidden areas
- Improves mobility
Worth unlocking. No debate.
Best Red Skills (Mobility & Advanced)
Fewer early options here, but still important.
Axiom Force (Grappling Upgrades)

- Aerial Maneuver → reach higher areas
- Aerial Swing → swing across terrain
Essential for exploration
Swift Flight

Upgrade to your glide ability.
- Faster movement
- Better traversal
Combine with jump abilities for maximum mobility
Winch

- Pull enemies toward you (GET OVER HERE!!!)
- Great vs ranged or flying enemies
Also gives brief invulnerability during use

Playstyle Matters
Not every skill fits every player.
You can also explore:
- Ranged builds
- Grappling builds
- Unarmed combat
But for most players:
This guide gives the strongest, safest path early on
Final Thoughts
Crimson Desert throws a LOT at you early.
If you focus on:
- Keen Senses
