Step-by-Step Walkthrough
Step 1: Speak with Marquis Serkis
Head to Marquis Serkis’s manor. Outside you’ll see a giant with a few people around him — one of them guides you inside. Approach and a cutscene plays automatically.
Step 2: Follow the Soldier Out
Once you regain control of Kliff, head back outside. A guard will start walking — follow him on foot.
Step 3: Follow the Soldier on Horseback
When the guard mounts up, call your horse and keep pace with him. Just stay close and let him lead.
Step 4: Speak with Marshal Middler
At Howling Hill, dismount and walk toward the campsite. Approach the group in the middle of the camp — a cutscene plays and the quest completes.

Don’t skip the cutscenes here. This quest introduces a lot of characters and sets up the whole Chapter 3 arc. It’s worth paying attention.
Try switching to Damiane after the quest. Once First Step to Rebuilding ends you can play as Damiane if you want. The switch is a whole little moment — the camera zooms out from Kliff into the sky and zooms back down to Damiane. Gives off strong GTA 5 character swap vibes, genuinely cool detail.
