Quick Answer

The Polar Opposites puzzle is solved by using Axiom Force on both stone pillars and rotating them until the lines turn from yellow to blue. Once both stones are blue, the tower door opens. That’s it.

Quest Overview

  • Location: Axiom Archive (Abyss)
  • Chapter: Abyss section
  • Previous Quest: Mystical Key
  • Next Quest: Abyss Without Balance

Step 1: Enter the Area and Reach the Platform

Walk through the gate and move forward onto the platform ahead of you. Standing on it activates the area and triggers the next sequence. You can’t miss it — it’s directly on the path.

Step 2: Approach the Tower

Keep walking toward the tower. A cutscene plays automatically when you get close enough. This is where you’re introduced to Axiom Force.

Step 3: You Gain Axiom Force

After the cutscene a white crow lands on you and you unlock Axiom Force. This is a core ability you’ll use repeatedly throughout the Abyss sections, so it’s worth understanding how it works now.

How to use Axiom Force on PC: Hold Tab to charge it, aim at your target, then release to fire. It’s a short range directed ability — you need to be facing the stone directly when you release.

Step 4: Solve the Puzzle

There are two stone pillars in front of the tower. Use Axiom Force on each one to rotate it. You’re looking for the carved lines on each stone to change color from yellow to blue. Rotate each stone until it locks into blue — the order doesn’t matter, you can do either one first.

Once both stones are blue the puzzle is complete and the tower door opens on its own.

If a stone isn’t responding: Make sure you’re fully facing it and close enough. Axiom Force has a limited range and won’t register if you’re too far back or at an angle.

Step 5: Enter the Tower

Stop using Axiom Force and walk through the door. A cutscene with Alustin starts automatically.

What Axiom Force Is Used For Going Forward

Polar Opposites is essentially a tutorial for a mechanic that keeps coming back. Axiom Force is used to solve environmental puzzles, trigger mechanisms, and interact with specific objects throughout the Abyss. Getting comfortable with the Tab hold and release timing here saves frustration later.

FAQ

Can you fail this puzzle? No. The stones just stay yellow until rotated correctly. There’s no penalty for experimenting.

Does the order of the stones matter? No, you can rotate either stone first.

Axiom Force isn’t working — what’s wrong? Make sure you’re close enough and directly facing the stone. Also confirm the cutscene has fully finished before trying — the ability isn’t active until after the crow sequence completes.

What comes after Polar Opposites? The next quest is Abyss Without Balance, which begins immediately after the Alustin cutscene.
