How Stealing Works (Quick Overview)

Stealing in Crimson Desert is simple on paper, but if you don’t understand the system:

You’ll get chased
Lose reputation
Or end up with a bounty

Here’s how it actually works — and how to do it properly.

How to Get a Mask (Required)

Before you can steal anything:

You NEED a mask

Without it:
You cannot steal at all

Method 1 – Buy from The Back Alley Shop

Go to:

Crimson Desert Grimrack
Crimson Desert Back Alley Shop

Hernand Farmhouse (south of Hernand Village)

From Back Alley Shop, you can buy:

  • Mask → around 10 Coins

Equip it in your inventory before stealing

Method 2 – Drop from Bandits

You can also get a mask by:

Killing bandits

  • Not guaranteed
  • But after clearing a few camps
    You might already have one

Step 1 – Entering Houses

You can enter most houses and buildings freely

  • NPCs generally don’t mind you being inside
  • You don’t need to sneak just for entering

Exception

Crimson Desert Gaurds will stop you from entering

If a guard blocks the entrance and you go in anyway (for example through a window):

  • You are considered trespassing
  • You must remain unseen

Step 2 – Don’t Get Caught Stealing

Even though entering is usually fine:

NPCs must NOT see you steal

  • Line of sight matters
  • Timing matters

Being seen while stealing is what causes problems

What Happens If You Get Seen

Crimson Desert Crimes and Bounty
Crimson Desert Crimes and Bounty

If you’re spotted during the act:

Things escalate quickly

  • NPCs react
  • You may get chased
  • A bounty can be triggered

The Stealing Gauge (Important)

When you steal:

Crimson Desert Theft Gauge
Crimson Desert Theft Gauge

A gauge appears and starts decreasing

During this time:

  • Stay hidden
  • Avoid being seen

If you get spotted before it finishes → trouble

Step 3 – Get Out Clean

Once you’ve stolen something:

Leave the area without being seen

  • Don’t linger
  • Don’t take unnecessary risks

Reputation System (Very Important)

Even if you’re NOT seen:

You still lose reputation with that faction

If things go wrong:

  • You get a bounty
  • Guards may chase you
  • You can be arrested and jailed

Jail clears your bounty, but it’s not ideal

Smart Strategy (Highly Recommended)

Build reputation FIRST, then steal

Why:

  • You have room to lose reputation
  • Less long-term consequences

🧠 When Should You Steal?

Stealing is useful when:

  • You want early access to gear
  • You’re doing specific quests
  • You want to skip certain progression steps

Example:

  • Getting the Hwando Katana early

Final Thoughts

Stealing in Crimson Desert is:

  • Easy to understand
  • Easy to mess up

The key is:

  • Wear a mask
  • Don’t get seen while stealing
  • Get in and out clean

Play it smart, and it becomes a powerful tool instead of a liability.
