Tar isn’t something you find lying around.
You craft it.
And yes — it’s easier than it looks.
Step 1: Unlock the Blacksmith
Before anything else, you need the Blacksmith at your base.
Once unlocked, you’ll gain access to the Charcoal Kiln.

Step 2: Build a Charcoal Kiln

To build the Kiln, you need:
- 20 Stone
Place it at your base like any crafting station.
Step 3: Craft Tar
Once the Kiln is built, supply it with:

- 30 Wood Logs
- 6 Dirt (any type works)
Activate it.
⏳ Craft time: 6 minutes
After that, you’ll get Tar.
What Is Tar Used For?
Tar is used in a surprising number of recipes, including:
Combat
- Explosive Arrows
- Explosive Powder Ball
- Fireball I–IV
- Wailing Blade (multiple versions)
Crafting & Stations
- Tanning Station
- Flammable Goo
- Mauveine
Building Materials
- Tarred Roof Blocks
- Tarred Wood Blocks
- Tarred Straw Blocks
- Polished Wooden Doors
- Hollow Halls Blocks
In short:
If you’re moving into mid-game crafting, Tar becomes essential.
Quick Tip
Always keep your Kiln running.
You’ll need Charcoal anyway — and while you’re at it, producing Tar in batches saves you from crafting bottlenecks later.
Future-proof yourself. Your Explosive Arrows will thank you.
