Quick Answer
Climb into LionCrest Manor in Hernand through a second floor window, grab the key off the small table on your right, then open the door across from the window. Inside is a chest containing the Rhonid Large Shield. Put your mask on before taking the key — it counts as stealing.
The Rhonid Large Shield is a solid early game upgrade over your starting shield and it’s sitting behind a door most players walk straight past. No combat, no puzzle, just a short stealth run and you’re holding one of the best early shields in the game.
What You Get
- Rhonid Large Shield — significant upgrade over your starting shield

Before You Start
- Equip a thief mask. Grabbing the key counts as theft. No mask, no steal prompt. See our Stealing in Crimson Desert Guide for how it works.
- Just leave the mask on the whole time. Guards don’t aggro from the mask alone. Saves you the inventory fumbling mid-run.
Step-by-Step Walkthrough
Step 1: Travel to LionCrest Manor
LionCrest Manor is located in Hernand. Both entrances are guarded — you’ll need to climb in through a window.

Step 2: Climb Through the Second Floor Window
Go around the side of the manor and climb up to the second floor window. Interact with the window to open it and climb in.

Step 3: Grab the Key From the Small Table
Immediately on your right after entering there’s a small table with a key on it. Taking it counts as stealing — make sure your mask is equipped and wait until any nearby guard has moved out of the area before grabbing it.
Crimson Desert quirk worth knowing: any key works on any locked door. This isn’t “the Rhonid Shield key” — it’s just a key. You can also buy keys from NPCs, but since this one’s right there, take the free route.

Step 4: Unlock the Door Across From the Window
The door is directly across from the window you came in through. Use the key to unlock it and head inside.

Step 5: Open the Chest
Inside the room is a chest with the Rhonid Large Shield. Open it and the shield and a Palmar Pill is yours.

Step 6: Wait Out the Theft Timer
A theft timer starts after taking the key (and again after the chest). No guards patrol the room behind the door — just stay inside until the timer clears. Easiest timer wait in the manor.
GameNautica Tips / Common Mistakes
Any key works on any door. Don’t waste time looking for a specific “Rhonid key.” The key on the table unlocks the door right there. This applies to most locked doors in Crimson Desert — grab a key, any key, and try it.
Stay in the locked room to wait out the timer. No guards patrol behind the door. Much safer than trying to hide in the main hallway.
Don’t leave the manor empty-handed. While you’re here, grab the gold bar from the downstairs fireplace, the Hwando Katana, and solve the strongbox puzzle for the Engraved Gold Earring. One trip, four pieces of loot.
Keep the mask on. No downside to wearing it throughout the manor. Only stealing triggers guards — the mask alone is fine.
Grab This While You’re Here
Since you’re already inside LionCrest Manor, don’t leave without:
- First Gold Bar in Hernand — downstairs fireplace, trades for 500 silver at the bank
- LionCrest Manor Strongbox Puzzle — Engraved Gold Earring
- Hwando Two-Handed Katana — one of the best early weapons
- Brass Warden’s Plate Gloves — early armor piece
