Upgrade weapons without wasting time
In Enshrouded, better weapons make a huge difference—especially when fighting enemies in the Shroud. To upgrade those weapons, you’ll need Runes.
At first, it’s easy to think Runes are rare or grindy. I certainly did.
Turns out… I was doing it the hard way.
Here’s how Runes actually work, and how to get them efficiently.
What Runes Are Used For

Runes are used to:
- Upgrade melee weapons
- Upgrade ranged weapons
- Increase weapon damage and effectiveness
Higher-tier weapons require more Runes, so having a steady supply matters.
How to Get Runes in Enshrouded

There are three main ways to get Runes.
1. Kill Enemies (Especially in the Shroud)

- Enemies can drop Runes when defeated
- Shroud enemies drop them more often
- Watch for Fallen creatures with weapons embedded in their bodies
⚠️ Tip:
Fallen enemies tend to spawn more frequently at night in certain areas.
The dark is not just spooky — it’s profitable.
2. Loot Chests and Containers
- Found in:
- Buildings
- Dungeons
- Points of Interest
- Runes can appear randomly
This works, but it’s not reliable or fast.
3. Dismantle Weapons (The Best Method)
This is the part I missed at first — facepalm moment.

Instead of endlessly farming enemies, you can:
- Dismantle unused weapons
- Receive Runes in return
- Get more Runes from higher-tier items
I spent days killing enemies, while unknowingly sitting on a stash of weapons at my base that could’ve been dismantled for easy Runes.
Once I realized this, Rune farming became trivial.
👉 If you’re upgrading gear regularly, dismantling old weapons should be your main Rune source.
How to Use Runes
To use Runes, you’ll need to rescue the Blacksmith NPC.
Steps to Upgrade Weapons
- Rescue the Blacksmith
- Summon him to your base using the Summoning Staff
- Interact with him
- Open the weapon enhancement menu
- Select a weapon and pay the Rune cost to upgrade it
Each upgrade increases the weapon’s damage.
Smart Rune Usage Tips
- Upgrade one main melee weapon
- Upgrade one main ranged weapon
- Dismantle everything else you’re not using
- Don’t hoard low-tier gear “just in case”
Runes are meant to be spent.
Final Tip
If Rune farming feels slow, you’re probably killing too many enemies and dismantling too few weapons. Check your storage — you might already be sitting on a Rune goldmine.
